Because we print a lot of stickers and adhesive labels, we get this question a lot. We’ve discovered a couple of methods for removing those obnoxious small globules of sticker residue that can sometimes be left behind.
Scraping off as much residue as you can with your fingernails or a malleable soft-edged object like a credit card is the first thing to try, but if it doesn’t work, you might want to try something different.
Removing Sticky Residue in a Natural Way
Masking tape, duct tape, or Sellotape can lift the residue in the same way as waxing your legs does, but it’s a lot less uncomfortable. The sticky coating adheres to any remaining sticky parts and can be lifted cleanly away. This is also the best tip for lily pollen, which is notorious for staining everything it comes into contact with; grab for the Sellotape before rubbing at it, and you might get away with no stain at all.
If that doesn’t work, take rubber from your pencil case and erase the spelling mistake you made in your best handwriting book when you were seven. Because rubber markings may result, only apply this on a surface that can be washed clean afterwards.
Put your item in the freezer if it can withstand temperatures below 0°F. This method works nicely with garments since the residue freezes and can be easily taken off. This isn’t a good idea for delicate items that might shatter in the cold.
You can open the peanut butter – yes, we said peanut butter – if you want to try something chemical-free. It’s packed with natural oils that can help you get rid of the last of the sticky residue. Using the same logic, you could use any kind of cooking or baby oil, but you won’t need much of it. Keep in mind that oil might stain, so don’t use this procedure on anything that might absorb and hold a stain. Another famous lubricant is WD40, which is well-known for combating stickers and their sticky glue.
You might try soaking kitchen rolls in vinegar and warm water. Allow this to sit on the residue for a few minutes, then turn on the kettle, make a cup of tea, and return to wipe it away.
A hairdryer can be used to remove some sticky glues. The adhesive is heated and loosens with a mild warm setting, and it slips off.
Tackling Sticker Residue with Chemicals
Fill the sink with warm soapy water and the object, then soak it for a while before wiping it down with a cloth, as if you were doing the dishes. If you can’t submerge the item (walls don’t always fit in a sink), use a towel soaked in soapy water to rub at the residue softly but firmly to release it. If the item is composed of anything solid like glass, wood, or plastic, a non-scratch scourer may be useful.
If the sticker residue is very obstinate, other, harsher options include rubbing alcohol or whiskey from the beverages cupboard, or acetone, such as nail paint remover. If you choose this option, dip a napkin or paper towel in it before wrapping it over the offending sticker. Please use extreme caution and ensure that your space is well ventilated so that you do not mistakenly breathe in any toxic vapours. It’s important to remember that these options can cause stains, damage, or discolouration, so be careful what you use them on.
Will there be a stain if I remove the sticker residue?
It is conceivable, so try the more natural options first, and if you must use harsher, chemical alternatives, apply a test patch first.
What is the finest cloth to use to remove any remaining sticky residue?
Because the last thing we want to do is leave a lasting stain or harm to the item we’re cleaning, we use a microfiber cloth or a soft non-scratch scourer. For mirrored surfaces, a window cleaner and a microfiber cloth work wonders.
But I have sticker residue on my clothes, and I’m not sure how I’m going to get it off.
The freezer, like the above-mentioned detergent, is the greatest option; after all, it’s designed to gently clean garments without inflicting damage.
We believe that prevention is better than cure, so we recommend purchasing removable labels so you don’t have to bother about cleaning persistent stickiness.
